Position Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and coordinating the implementation of machinery and equipment into the manufacturing process as well as Training all invested parties on the utilization and maintenance of the equipment both new and legacy. Responsible for engagement and management of qualified contractors and service providers. The Manufacturing Engineer plans, maintains, and performs economic justifications on capital expenditure projects.
Essential Functions:
- Project Administration: Develop and execute projects according to defined schedules and budgets. For projects requiring external resources, recruit qualified contractors, and serve as a primary point of contact for these contractor activities on site unless otherwise designated.
- Engineering: Optimize business needs including purchasing tools/equipment and designing machines in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Establish and maintain all production processes in accordance with ISO, GMP, and other certification requirements. Maximize efficiencies with the layout of manufacturing equipment and workspace. Develop documentation for equipment installation and maintenance of equipment and provide or assist with training.
- Process Improvement: Improve processes and meet ongoing productivity requirements for safety, quality, and cost. Maintain and improve product costs within the ERP system. Drive and enforce structured root-cause problem solving to initiate corrective actions, reduce inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement. Confer with the workforce to clarify and identify equipment/process issues and implement solutions that meet company goals and objectives. Work with the Lean Coordinator to create and implement cost savings solutions.
- Capital Planning: Determine the feasibility of designing new equipment or modifying existing machinery based on existing and future business needs, current technology, available space, time constraints, and other technical and economic factors. Create and maintain a capital plan keeping expenditures within approved limits.
- Product Development: Provide assistance on new product development including response to R&D engineering requests needed to achieve new/improved marketable products. Provide expert guidance regarding engineering inquiries and support R&D and new product development (IDEaL) through active team participation.
Other Duties
- Assist sales and marketing in developing product literature by recording, interpreting, and explaining technical data and performance.
- Provide concise written reports for project updates and final reports on completed projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements
- 4-year degree in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Paper Science & Engineering.
- Minimum of three years of industrial experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) Required
- Working knowledge of industrial, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems.
- Experience with paper science or industrial paper making.
- Ability to encourage teamwork and work with departments to identify current and future needs.
- Excellent leadership and project management skills; including ability to organize and motivate a team.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse workgroup in a team environment.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, Minitab or other statistical software, other computer programs, and technology.
Other Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Acute hearing is necessary for phone and in-person communication with outside business contacts and fellow employees, and visual acuity must be sufficient to read a computer screen and paper documents.
Working Conditions
Combination of office and plant environments; hot and cold conditions may exist depending on external weather conditions. Exposure to various chemicals and customer supplied fluids. May be exposed to wet/high humidity conditions during product testing.
